A Mediterranean Haven Brought to Life Through Ancient Surfaces
This project reflects the kind of quiet luxury that only reclaimed limestone can create. Every room tells its own story, shaped by handcrafted stone elements that ground the home with age, texture, and authenticity. From the custom limestone fireplace to the Provence inspired floors and staircase, Ancient Surfaces added depth and character without ever overwhelming the calm elegance of the interior design. Below is a closer look at how each space came together with the pieces we provided.
In the living room, the centrepiece is the carved limestone mantle sourced from our reclaimed limestone collection. Its geometric relief carving becomes the anchor of the room, framed by soft natural light. The firebox is lined with reclaimed herringbone limestone bricks that bring warmth and movement to the setting while complementing the mantle’s patina. Together they introduce a sense of European heritage and handmade artistry that transforms the entire atmosphere.
Moving into the kitchen, the flooring becomes the defining feature. Here we installed our reclaimed limestone hexagonal pavers, blending warm ochres, creams, and sun washed saffron tones. These pavers feel collected over time and give the kitchen the authenticity of an old French farmhouse. Their subtle surface texture softens the cabinetry and natural wood beams, making the entire space feel welcoming and lived in. The same reclaimed limestone continues into the dining area, visually connecting both rooms and reinforcing the continuity of materiality.
In the powder bathroom, limestone takes on a sculptural role. The round antique limestone sink is carved from a single block and sits on top of a marble vanity. Its softened edges and natural pores speak to its centuries old history. Underfoot, reclaimed limestone pavers provide an aged, patterned floor that adds a European touch to the small space. The combination of carved stone and reclaimed flooring gives this bathroom a collected character that cannot be replicated through modern materials.
The staircase showcases another layer of the project’s stone craftsmanship. Each tread and riser was made using our reclaimed limestone steps, carefully selected for tone continuity. Their softened edges and natural movement create the feeling of an old Mediterranean villa. The stone carries light beautifully and pairs seamlessly with the wrought iron railing, which enhances the architectural presence of the entryway.
Throughout the home, Ancient Surfaces introduced reclaimed limestone in different styles and finishes tailored to the needs of each room.
